Bucket Elevator
The bucket elevator is one of the most efficient methods for elevating bulk granular materials - but it is also one of the most dangerous. The dust generated from the movement of materials within the elevator can be highly explosive, and mechanical failure or incorrect operation of the bucket elevator can have catastrophic consequences. The most common hazards on bucket elevators are belt misalignment, belt slippage, blocked chutes, and bearing failures, each of which should be monitored to reduce the risk of fires, explosions or breakdowns that result in costly downtime.
4b offer a range of monitoring equipment and sensors to monitor those hazards- see schematic.
(Illustration shows typical sensor placements, applications may vary).
(1) Bearing Temperature Sensor
The sensors screw directly into a bearing housing through the existing grease zerk thread. Each sensor is fitted with a grease zerk to allow lubrication of the bearing without the need for removal of the sensor.
More about Bearing Temperature Sensors
(2) Surface Temperature Sensor
Bolts directly onto a bearing housing, motor, gearbox, or machine casing for continuous temperature monitoring.
More about Surface Temperature Sensors
(3) Belt Misalignment Sensor
Electro-mechanical limit-switch with no moving parts, which detects tracking and misalignment problems on bucket elevators and conveyors.

(4) Speed Switch Sensor
The M-Series speed switches is a range of inductive proximity sensors for monitoring shaft underspeed conditions. With two under speed relay contact outputs and a pulse output, the self contained unit provides the user with easy on site installation and consistent reliability.
More about Speed Switch Sensors
(5) Plug / Choke Sensor
Detects level or plug situations for bulk granular solids or liquids in tanks, bins, or silos and can be used as a plug or choke detector in chutes, conveyors and elevator legs.

(5) WDA Sensor - Slack/Broken Chain Detection
Non-contacting extended range magnetic proximity sensor, not affected by dust or material build up, used to detect moving ferrous material up to 4 inches away from the sensor. Used for detecting slack / broken chain in drag conveyors.
Screw Conveyor
Screw conveyors provide an enclosed method of transferring materials both horizontally and on an inclination.
4B offer a range of electronic monitoring components that can be used on screw conveyors to ensure that they operate efficiently and safely, including blockage detectors, bearing temperature monitors and rotation speed monitors. Click on the links below to view these products on the 4B website.

Belt Conveyor
Belt Conveyors are used in many bulk material handling applications ranging from agricultural application such as grain handling through to heavy duty applications, such as quarrying and mining. They consist of 2 or more pulleys with a continuous loop of conveyor belt that rotates around them.
The schematic below shows the main areas that need to be monitored in a belt conveyor to ensure the conveyor operates efficiently and safely.
4B offer monitoring equipment for the following hazards in belt conveyors: belt alignment, belt slip, plugged chute, bearing temperature, rotation speed.
