Chain Conveyor with Forged Chains and Welded Flights

Chain Conveyors are an essential part of many bulk handling systems, where they are used to convey bulk materials such as powders, grains, flakes and pellets. 4B's chain engineering department specialises in 2 types of chain conveyors, both using drop forged chains:
En-Masse Chain Conveyors:
This technology is mainly used in agricultural applications.
Here the flight height can be as low as 12.5% of the material being transported in the chain conveyor. The material is fed into the conveyor from the top and falls through the moving chain to the bottom of the box. Because the particles interlock, the material moves as a single stream at the same speed as the chain. This highly efficient conveying process allows nearly the entire conveyor cross section to move as bulk.
Drag Chain Conveyors:
This technology is mainly used in industrial applications.
In Drag Conveying the material height being transported is often less than or equal to the flight height. Sometimes this can be more depending on the application. Drag conveying will literally “pull” the material along. Speeds are often much slower than en-masse conveying.
4B offers a FREE Chain Conveyor Design Service for both new and existing chain conveyors and technical support from our team of specialised Engineers. Fill in our chain conveyor questionnaire now to get a recommendation for your application.

Drop Forged Chains
4B's drop forged chain is made of special heat treated alloy steel case hardened to Rockwell C57 - C62 with a ductile core hardness of Rockwell C40. 4B’s superior heat treatment technique provides the optimum chain link with a more resilient ductile core for shock resistance, and an extremely hard exterior surface for superior wear and corrosion resistance.
This results in reduced downtime and maintenance with an increase in the working life for the chain conveyor.
4B offers a wide range of link sizes - standard chain links as well as double and triple chain links.
4B forged chain links are available with either welded flights or bolt-on flights (Bolt 'N' Go system).
Bolt 'N' Go Chains
The Bolt ‘N’ Go flight system is a revolutionary assembly method for drop forged chains. Link and flight assembly is made easy by using a standard bolt and mechanical lock nut with a high strength, heat treated hollow pin.
The Bolt 'N' Go chain system is easy to assemble and reliable.
It is also available for round link conveyor chains.
Sprockets & Trailers
4B sprockets and trailers for drop forged chains are manufactured from high grade heat treated steel to a minimum hardness of 57 HRC. Each piece is machined to size with appropriate bore and keyway specific to each customer's application.
Illustration shows typical sensor placements, applications may vary.
(1) Bearing Temperature Sensor
The sensor screws directly into a bearing housing through the existing grease zerk thread. Each sensor is fitted with a grease zerk to allow lubrication of the bearing without the need for removal of the sensor.
More about Bearing Temperature Sensors
(2) Surface Temperature Sensor
Bolts directly onto a bearing housing, motor, gearbox, or machine casing for continuous temperature monitoring.
More about Surface Temperature Sensors
(3) Plug / Choke Sensor
Detects level or plug situations for bulk granular solids or liquids in tanks, bins, or silos and can be used as a plug or choke detector in chutes, conveyors and elevator legs.

(4) Speed Switch Sensor
The M-Series speed switches is a range of inductive proximity sensors for monitoring shaft underspeed conditions. With two under speed relay contact outputs and a pulse output, the self contained unit provides the user with easy on site installation and consistent reliability.

(5) WDA Sensor - Slack/Broken Chain Detection
Non-contacting extended range magnetic proximity sensor, not affected by dust or material build up, used to detect moving ferrous material up to 4 inches away from the sensor. Used for detecting slack / broken chain in drag conveyors.
Watchdog Elite Hazard Monitor
The Watchdog Elite is a microprocessor controlled unit with combined belt speed, belt alignment, bearing temperature, pulley alignment and plugged condition monitoring for a single bucket elevator or conveyor.
More about Watchdog™ Elite Hazard Monitors
T500 Elite - Hotbus™ Hazard Monitor
The T500 Elite - Hotbus is a serial communications system designed to monitor up to 256 sensors on multiple bucket elevators and conveyors for belt speed, belt alignment, bearing temperature, level and plugged conditions.
